Figure painting in Watercolor.  Experimental Images….an attempt to be ‘painterly’.  # 1 with Blue background; #2 with red/orange background; #3 gray background; and #4 photo of Shirley Trevena, a paint-watercolor-loose -and -free artist from U.K.  (See her here: www.shirleytrevena.com)  I think #1 is a bit scary- included here to show room for improvement.  #2 is a bit awkward, but I like the colors and patterns- they are warmer and friendlier.  #3 has the full figure including boots.  I like the neutral grays and loose texture.  This one is my favorite of the three.  What do you think?

The TALK #6 and #7

These are 2-3 months old. I intended to do a lot more of The TALK but got involved in learning acrylics- which has been a great struggle for me (having painted in watercolor for since the bi-centennial of the USA). These have been standing in my studio catching my eye. Although some folks have found issues with various aspects of these two, I like them. Then intention was to report on this conversation - from a photo I took. There is considerable difference in attitude in Painting #6 and #7. The artist goal was to contrast the pure transparent washes with more opaque background which is better accomplished in #6; also to contrast the warm and cool, light and mid-tone; to understate.

This has a modified grid. I am still working off ideas from Myrna Wacknov’s workshop.

The drawing was made from a photo using a Sharpie Marker. Then, I scanned it, and in Photo shop I added the yellow lines. Then it was distorted to make the feet larger. The lines were added in the painting with a stick loaded with watercolor paint. I think I like it, however of this writing it is only 15 minutes old.

Figure Sketches from Vacation

Figure Sketches from  Vacation.  I am trying to  prepare for three series with the intent of exploring the Elements of Design. I am thinking of a still life, this figure, and a structure- I think a barn. ( I did grow up on a  dairy farm!)  more to come

This is from an old photo of my mother,

taken on the farm where I lived and grew-up.

The memories are wonderful.... good years.

I am very hesitant of my figure painting skills,

but I like the painting.

I am pleased to say that Marcella has been accepted in the 1st Annual Southeast Minnesota regional Juried Art Exhibition
