These were finished a couple of months ago. Number 8, 9 and 10 in my figurative series The Talk. I am just playing with color value and texture. Trying to get creative juices flowing

The TALK #6 and #7

These are 2-3 months old. I intended to do a lot more of The TALK but got involved in learning acrylics- which has been a great struggle for me (having painted in watercolor for since the bi-centennial of the USA). These have been standing in my studio catching my eye. Although some folks have found issues with various aspects of these two, I like them. Then intention was to report on this conversation - from a photo I took. There is considerable difference in attitude in Painting #6 and #7. The artist goal was to contrast the pure transparent washes with more opaque background which is better accomplished in #6; also to contrast the warm and cool, light and mid-tone; to understate.

The Talk #1, #2 and #3

This began with a straight watercolor wash being mindful of warm and cool interaction, then line added, then stripes with attention to gradation and variety and finally various stencils.

The order of painting here was a the reverse of #1. I began with a light underwash, added some pattern with stencils, then drew the figures (actually traced from my ‘actual size’ sketch) then painted the figures and added some more patten. I like this one better.

The Talk # 3 Watercolor and India Ink 11x10

I put the colored wash on, then drew with India Ink using a stick- a twig from the maple tree in our yard. But the ink got away from me, so I let it go and added the dark background and texture.

After painting a few of these I noticed the similar hand positions and thought it might be better to make an alteration. Now we know who is talking here!
