Saucy Jaunt

Saucy Jaunt    36” by 84”    Acrylic on board in five sections

This was an absorbing creative journey. . . . a commission for favorite oldest son and wife.  The idea included energetic reds with contrasting colors.  The pieces, which my husband assembled, have various depths from 2- 4 inches.  I was all ready to paint with the ideas and energy brewing  inside my head, then was hit with a major Spring cold and had to wait  a couple of weeks,  Once I stared painting, the  base coat  was  put on in a day then many adjustments over the next week.  We took it to Little Rock last week.  I think they like it.

Here are two view which give some idea of the three dimensions

Earth Tree Sky

Earth Tree Sky       12x16 each              16x 36 all three

I wanted to move to a more recognizable abstract. Trees and nature are a heart-felt topic for me flowing out of a lifelong habit of woods-walking.

The work began with deep green, chosen because I do not frequently use it. Then again, colors selected with the idea of quad-complements, as explained in previous entry.

I chose medium to large size shapes - repeated with variations, attempting to have some flow from one to the next. Then I used any combination of colors to paint both positive and negative tree shapes. The Great Blue Herons completed the effort.

This abstract acrylic triptych is a new venture for me. The colors are more subdued than usual for me. I was not sure I like the results. However, it has grown on me and now am satisfied….seems peaceful.

What do you think?

Favorite Things: Moose Musing

Favorite Things:    Moose Musing      16x20 acrylic

This bit of memorabilia has been included in a few small studies. The expression was not really planed but was a keeper. More work with intensity both in the cool and warm colors.

Favorite Things: Green Crock

Favorite Things: Green Crock          16x20             Acrylic

I wanted focus on lost edges so that everything is not so very obvious, therefore the flowers are blended into white background in a few places, the crock also has lost edges. Also attention was given to intensity.

The rectangular shapes in the background serve to add an abstract feature and additional entertainment. There is a clear contrast in value-dark, medium, and light; in color-warm, cool, pure and dull; in sizes-large and small, some texture found in line and spatter. Also every corner is different in size, value and shape. A couple folks said they like this one a lot. What do you think?

Well here is an acrylic attempt. This is a very challenging switch form 35 plus years of water color. More coming soon.

Barn 124 The Committee and Barn 125 Ruby

Barn 124 The Committee  22x30    watercolor and pencil
The low intensity warm and cool grays of the barns cause the very high intensity of the cows, grass and sky to sing. I like it quite a bit. I have been studying the effect of intensity next to pure color, and reading again the notes form Skip Lawrence’s workshop which I took in the last century…think I am going to work on this intensity idea a bit more.

Barn 125 Ruby    22x30    watercolor and pencil
What to say! This is Ruby I thought the spots on the barn and circles in the sky were nicely repeated in the grass and doorways and Ruby’s roundness. She is fairly bold!

Four Acrlyic Studies

Pear 10x11 acrylic on paper
This small one seems successful... happy

I have wanted to try acrylics for some time, so here is an offering. The process is so very different from W.C. where on usually works light to dark. More to come in acrylic.

Table Setting     12x16 acrylic on canvas

This is a copy of a watercolor I did 2-3 years ago. I like the W.C. better. This one seems so stiff to me. Good color, needs some lost edges.

Cocky 12x16 acrylic on canvas

The use of gray and stencils that I made pleased me; however I am not yet satisfied with the upper left corner.
